LOTAR 3D Visualization Workgroup

Goals and Objectives

The objective is to define common recommendations for LT Archiving and Retrieval of 3D Visualization information.
These recommendations will be, consistent with LT Archiving and Retrieval of information concerning CAD models and related information, throughout the full product life cycle.

3D Visualization is any technique for efficiently communicating information and data (i.e. 3D models, 3D predefined views, diagrams, animations, etc) for the display of definition data, derived data, and other archived data artifacts.

The goal of the 3D Visualization Working Group is:

  • To identify use cases for long term archiving of  the 3D visualization information,
  • To define requirements for the archiving of the 3D visualization information
  • To provide recommendations for the 3D Visualization standards by the LOTAR community

The data can be any 3D representation (3D geometry, 3D PMI & annotation, Assembly structure, user defined attributes, …) from the Mechanical, Electrical, and Composite domains.

Associated LOTAR use cases

The following list of use cases has been identified:

Name Status
L-T Archiving and Retrieval of derived visualization data for certification Release in 2014
L-T Archiving and Retrieval of derived visualization data for internal use Release in 2014
L-T Archiving and Retrieval of derived visualization data for external support Release in 2014

List of LOTAR documentation

The working group does not plan to deliver standards documentation. However, the working group will generate guidelines. It will include:

  • Use Cases
  • Requirements
  • Compliance matrix template

Meetings

  • The 3D Visualization Working Group holds bi-weekly WebEx/Teleconf meetings on Thursdays at 8:00 AM (GMT-0700), 3:00 PM (GMT)
  • In-person sessions of the 3D Visualization WG during the quarterly LOTAR Workshops

Related standard under analysis

  • ISO 24517 PDF/E - ISO 14739 PRC
  • ISO 10303 STEP AP242 Tessellated
  • ISO 14306 JT
